"I Have a Healthy Baby"

When my mom was in labor with my sister Lynette, she had the unfortunate luck of having a dual room. My mom had to listen to this poor women next to her scream and cry because her baby was born with a lot of problems. This scared the ever living crap out of my mom. When Lynette was delivered, the doctor handed her to my mom and said, "you have a healthy baby". My mom was so elated and relieved that Lynette was OK that she kept repeating hysterically, " I have a healthy baby, I have a healthy baby".

This past week I finally understood what she might have been feeling when she heard those words. Ava's newborn screening came back positive for Cystic Fibrosis. For those of you who don't know, this disease primarily targets the lungs and is fatal. The doctor called to tell me this and told me with all certainty that there were no more tests to preform and that Ava had this disease for sure...can you say devastating!!! Well fortunately, while we were loosing it, our family suggested getting a second opinion. We did so and after a trip up to Primary Children's, many blessings, prayers and pleadings, her tests came back negative!!! When we got the blessed news, I kept thinking to myself, "I have a healthy baby, I have a healthy baby!" Thank goodness for family, thank goodness for the Gospel and the Holy Ghost to prompt us to say and do things we wouldn't think of on our own and thank goodness for healthy babies!

She is so dang cute! We can't wait to see her again. We are so glad she is okay. I guess Heavenly Father wants us to always appreciate the healthiness we have. Just not fun to be scared.

I love that picture of her smiling-she is growing so fast! My kids loved the pictures! I think Jenni is so right when I was worring about Ava I realized we worry about the small stuff to much and we need to appreciate the great things we have! Love you guys!

Ok, I don't even know where to begin...first of all- I'm so glad you have a blog and I LOVED reading every last word of it.

I cannot believe you didn't have an epidural!!! Superwoman. I could never do that. And, yes all three of my labors have been about 3 hours long, from the time they administer the pitocin and I only really pushed 6 times with Kate, 3 with Taylor, and 2 with Lauren. My babies pretty much fly out. I hate it though b/c it happens too fast and labor/delivery is the most amazing thing I've ever done. I would do it everyday (as long as drugs are administered).

I cannot believe how amazing you looked when you were pregnant (and afterwards, for that matter)- Todds know how to do babies! :)

You're the YW prez?? Crazy! I'm the secretary and I feel overwhelmed...I can't even imagine how crazy your life must be right now. You're amazing- and you sound so positive all the time.

I'm so glad you have a healthy baby...I can certainly identify with the sheer fear that accompanies the news of having an unhealthy baby and the overwhelming gratitude that comes when you deliver a healthy baby...no words. So, so glad she doesn't have CF- that would have been a scary one. She's adorable.

By the way, we are coming out to Utah next month to stay in my parents' cabin at Sundance for about 10 days...care to join us at all? You're more than welcome to come up and hang out/spend the night if you can make the drive...I would LOVE to see you and Ava!! (and bring your hubby too if he's willing)
